Launch A Career

As experts in our field, we depend upon other experts to keep us on the cutting edge of the constantly evolving music industry. These professionals graciously donate their time, their expertise, and their resources by engaging our students both inside and outside the classroom. Here are some ways we can build the future music industry together.

Post a Job or Externship

Because getting our students to work is why we exist — the word "career" is right there in our name — we can help you find the best qualified applicants for your business.

Every one of our students does not one, but two externships inside the music industry as part of the curriculum required to graduate.  Every one of our graduates gets to work.

If you have a job opening or externship position you are seeking to fill, please complete the online Job •Externship Opening Form.

[GROOVE U student] Sky Young was amazing! I was actually a hero for “discovering” him, but little did people know he approached us. Honestly, I can’t say enough how awesome he is — from his work ethic to his attitude.
— Jessica Taylor, GM & Production Director • Floydfest

Already planning to work with one of our students on an externship? Submit our Externship Employer Form which contains information and instructions for externship employers.

GROOVE U Community Engagement

For The Community

GROOVE U Community Engagement

For The Community

Think globally, act locally, and build a musical community. Let's get to work together.

action-caf01r.jpg

Commusicity

Every one of our students completes 10 hours of community service every academic term term. Students choose a partner in the community and then volunteer their time, energy, and resources to that partner's cause. They do this above-and-beyond all class projects already taking place every month inside the Columbus community.

Additionally, we have community partners who take advantage of our resources both on and off our Creative Campus.

Is it all of this a lot to expect? Sure. Is it worth it? Absolutely.

Have a project that could use our help? Pease complete the online Community  Engagement Request Form and we will do our best to get to "yes".

It's not enough for us to just be a part of  our music community — we want to help lead it. If you have witnessed us in a action either as project leader or just out-and-about, please take a moment and tell us how we are doing by completing the online Community Satisfaction Survey Form.

I thought the GROOVE U stage was amazing. I hope to have it back again next year. I thought it was absolutely one of the contributing factors to why “Big Local” did so well this year. Several times I walked away from the big local tents closer to the stage just so I could hear the music better.
— Scott Huntley, Festival Director Columbus Arts Festival 2016

The Columbus Arts Festival began in 1962 outside the Statehouse. It has since become one of the best arts festivals in the nation, attracting hundreds of highly acclaimed artists from throughout the country. The annual outdoor festival is typically a three-day event held along the city’s beautiful riverfront. In addition to the art, a wide range of food and drink from local restaurants as well as live music and theater performances round out the festival for three days of fun in the sun. GROOVE U annually hosts the emerging talent stage at the Columbus Arts Festival.

The Dick & Jane Project partners middle school students with professional musicians to create radio-ready songs. Students write the lyrics, the musicians compose and record the music, and together they collaborate on the production of a professionally recorded song. Bringing schools, families, and communities together, they give young people the confidence to know that their words can impact people beyond the classroom walls in a very real way. GROOVE U students record and mix the Dick & Jane Project songs on our Creative Campus.
