COLUMBUS, Ohio (November 27, 2012) – Calling all central Ohio high school music performers. Do you have what it takes to become the next big thing? If so, GROOVE U is now accepting submissions for the 2013 Instaband contest. The winning artist not only gets bragging rights as the best high school band in Columbus, but also wins a recording contract complete with a professionally mastered EP, a music video, a website, booking support, merchandise and a mentoring session with a music industry pro. That’s what Instaband is about, becoming an instant band, and boosting your artistry to the next level.
But more than that, Instaband encourages youth to create and perform their own music. And that’s why GROOVE U students have selected three music-centric Columbus nonprofits – the Dick & Jane Project, Music Loves Ohio and Through Mind’s Eyes – to benefit from Instaband proceeds.
“GROOVE U believes in the power of the local music community, and we see a real need for local high school artists to engage that community,” said Dwight Heckelman, Director of GROOVE U’s revolutionary music career program. “It is a natural fit for us to have our students produce Instaband as a way to help build community, plus it’s a great hands-on learning experience, which is part of our DNA here at GROOVE U. Not to mention the direct tie-in to these great nonprofits which support music programs for local kids.”
Instaband is open to all central Ohio high school bands, duos, and solo artists in all genres, including: pop, rock ‘n roll, metal, rap, metal, hip-hop, singer/songwriter, country, trance/electronica, Christian/gospel, etc. Visit the Instaband website at www.instaband.org for official contest rules, submission instructions and important deadlines.
Beginning in February, 30 bands selected by an independent panel of judges will compete in one of three semi-finals held at GROOVE U. The top three bands from each semi-final, plus one fan-voted “wild card” band, will advance to the Instaband final. Bands will be judged on musicality, performance, style and creativity, with winners determined by 50% expert panel of judges and 50% audience vote.
We haven’t left the fans out. Doors open early at each semi-final and the final for fans to experience the Instafan expo. Music stores, skate shops, tattoo artists and other sponsors will be on hand. Fans can try out music instruments, talk with recording studios, play video games, get a faux tattoo and hang with the bands.
Instaband offers something for everyone, whether you want to participate as a band, attend as a fan or exhibit at the Instafan expo. Get the schedule of events and learn how to get involved by visiting the Instaband website at www.instaband.org.
