You have an enormously greater chance of eventually presenting yourself to, and eventually appealing to, an audience by striking out on your own, by making your own plays and films, than by submitting to the industrial model of the school and the studio.
— David Mamet

Bio

I attended film school at the University of Southern California during the indie boom of the 1990s. With the breakout successes of Tarantino, Linklater, Smith, et al, it was a great time to imagine yourself being an indie filmmaker.  After graduating, however, I soon learned that it was not such a great time to actually be an indie filmmaker.

Degree in hand, I moved back home to Ohio and quickly returned to my first love, theatre. I was fortunate to work with local companies Red Herring, BlueForms, Gallery Players, and Available Light. The experience helped me appreciate the depth of talent and resources we have in Columbus. It also refined my storytelling skills and reinforced what it means to work collaboratively with other professionals.

As consumer technology advanced and equipment became more affordable, I was able to have access once again to cameras and editing software that could yield professional results. I soon began freelancing full-time, collaborating with other local professionals on a variety of promotional, educational, instructional, and—importantly—narrative work. I also currently serve as V.P. of the Mid-Ohio Filmmakers Association, where we work to promote and strengthen the community of filmmakers in central Ohio.

Did you know that...

One of the prized possessions in my comic book collection is a first-print copy of Eastman and Laird's TMNT #1.

Musicianship

I'm not much of a musician. But every good film has a rhythm, so I try to play to those strengths.
